Area: South Hebron villages
Made of black polyester fabric, the thobe is embroidered in red silk threads with some additional colours. The embroidery is done in floral and different geometrical patterns, of which the most common is the triangular shape on the chest area called ‘aqwas’ which means arches in Arabic. In the middle of the arches, we can see other floral and geometrical patterns. The sides are completely covered in triangular shapes, in addition to feathers and other patterns.
As for the frontal and back areas, the embroidery is done in slim vertical strips called ‘Al-Orouq’ which means branches in Arabic, in triangular patterns and stars. The embroidery on the lower back hem (Al-Radfa) is in a horizontal band that is more than 30 cm high and is done in floral and geometric patterns. The sleeves are embroidered vertically along the sleeve until it meets with a horizontal strip at the opening of the sleeve.
