Made of black velvet with a cotton or silky touch, this thobe is richly embroidered on the chest panel. The sides of the thobe called ‘Al-banayeq’ are made of colored silk fabric that are triangular in shape and adorned with motifs called ‘Al-Mashrabiyeh’ and ‘Al-Sa’a’ which means a clock in Arabic. The sleeves are wide and embroidered adorned with colored silk fabric. The Bethlehem stitch called ‘Al-Talhamiya’ has great influence in Palestinian embroidery heritage; it is different than other regions’ stitching, as silk and reed threads are used in the embroidery and the stitches are called ‘Al-Tahriri’ or ‘Risheq’ which is the couching stitch, and ‘Al-Laf’
